The initial inspiration for Mental Element came from patterns found in living organisms: labyrinths that belong as much to computer science and mathematics as to biology. Using circuit-board fabrication techniques, the work traces forms reminiscent of cellular cross-sections, the spreading networks of slime mold, and the structures of neurons. The arrangement of electronic components and circuits sets energy in motion through the electronic world, while genetic codes and organic matter within cells shape the structures and surfaces of living things. These structures and pathways seem to offer an entrance into the mysterious labyrinth underlying the world.

His interdisciplinary practice encompasses interactive installation, gaming, experimental moving image, internet-based works, and sound. Engaging with the meta-narratives of media, he con-structs model-based scenarios as forms of simulation, using them as thought experiments to probe the contradictions and paradoxes of the contemporary world. nI recent years, his work has increasingly drawn inspiration from natural phenomena, developing simulations that explore the entanglement of biological and technological systems.
